The new Tenkasi district was bifurcated from Tirunelveli in 2019. Tenkasi District is located in the south western region of Tamilnadu. It is surrounded by Tirunelveli district in the south east and Virudhunagar in the North. The total geographical area of the district is 2882.44sq.kms. It comprises of 8 Talukas 5 Municipalities, 18 Town panchayaths, 246 revenue villages, 221 village panchayaths.
The Chittar river flows through the district. The famous Coutrallam Falls is on Chittar River. The waterfalls of Courtallam are said to have medicinal value as they run through forest and herbs before their descent. Courtallam is called as "Spa of South India." Tamil poet ThirikoodaRasappaKavirayar sang about the beauty of this place in his "KutraalaKuravanji".
